Drink your way to good health

Ginger tea tonic

Known to be one of the oldest known medicinal foods on the planet, the ginger root is an antibacterial and an antiviral agent with a high antioxidant content. It naturally detoxifies the digestive tract, effectively removing toxins and promoting good blood circulation. Ginger is a godsend for those with less immunity as well.

Method of preparation:

To a cup of warm/hot water(not boiling) water, add an inch of fresh, chopped ginger. Let it steep for a few minutes. Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon and add a tablespoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Add a tiny sprinkling of cayenne pepper and sweeten with raw honey.

Cleansing tea

A perfect cold and flu buster, this cleansing tea contains the likes of cinnamon and rosemary and is not meant to be boiled but to be had at a relatively low temperature to preserve the nutrients in it.

Method of preparation:

Toast a 2” stick of cinnamon and a quarter of a cup of cinnamon seeds in a dry skillet till they crackle and turn fragrant. Slightly crush them and transfer to a saucepan with about 4 cups of water. Cook this mixture over a medium high heat till the thermometer reads 100 degrees.

At this stage, add in a bruised bunch of rosemary, cilantro, chopped 2” piece of ginger, herbal tea bags, a tablespoon of raw honey and another of apple cider vinegar and stir it to dissolve the honey. Reduce heat to the low setting and let the liquid steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve and ladle the desired serving into a cup.

Turmeric Tea

Turmeric is reknowned for its many healing and antibacerial properties. Turmeric is a versatile yellow spice, giving colour as well as elevating  the nutrition levels of the things it is added into.

Method of preparation:

Puree a 2” piece of turmeric and ginger in a blender with 3 tablespoons of agave syrup, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and a third of a cup of water. Strain this mixture and serve it over ice. Top it off with sparkling water and sprinkle cayenne pepper over it.
