Is Healthy Diet a necessity for good Sleep?

Sleep is an integral component for every human being to stay fit, healthy, more importantly to survive and so is the consumption of food.

Food and sleep are seen as two distinct necessities however, they complement each other in some way or the other.

Whatever you consume before bed has a significant effect on your sleeping pattern. Food that are rich in protein , vitamin B6 & D ,minerals, calcium, magnesium, potassium and carbohydrates help one to sleep better.

Below are few commonly available foods

•Dairy Products

Dairy products such as milk and curd contain high amount of calcium, which helps in stress reduction, and stabilization of nerve fibers thus inducing sleep.

Milk when consumed with turmeric powder also helps to sleep better.

Bananas

Banana contains potassium and magnesium , that helps relax over stressed muscles .They also contain tryptophan, which convert to serotonin and melatonin thus helping one to sleep better.

Banana along with a glass of milk or soy milk is a good choice.

•Almonds

Almonds contain high amount of magnesium, which promotes sleep and helps to relax muscles. They also contain a protein that maintains blood sugar levels and helps in digestion.

Almonds consumed after soaked in water tastes better.

•Hard boiled eggs

Eggs contain large amount of protein and carbohydrates that helps in producing serotonin and melatonin, the primary acids that induces sleep. When consumed with carbohydrate rich food they also control the insulin level.

•Tea

Tea being a decaf helps to sleep better. Researchers believe one cup of hot tea can do the magic. Herbal tea, green tea, turmeric tea & lemon tea are the popular choices.

•White Rice

White rice being rich in carbohydrates and insulin secretes amino acids that in turn help to sleep better.

Curd with rice is also helps to sleep better.
